Here's a partial repost for those that may have missed it the first go round:

"Extremism" is a term which standing by itself, has no meaning. The concept of extreme denotes a relation, and measurement, a degree. The dictionary gives the following definition: Extreme, adj. - 1. of a character or kind farthest removed from the ordinary or average. 2. But most were exceedingly great in degree.

Naturally, the first question one ought to ask, for using that term, is: a degree — of what?
Apparently anything. But, to proclaim that any extreme is evil because it is an extreme, to hold the degree of the characteristic, regardless of its nature, as evil — is an absurdity. Measurements, as such have no value significance — they merely acquire it from that which is being measured.

Are an extreme of health and extreme of disease equally undesirable? Are extreme intelligence and extreme stupidity — both equally far removed "from the ordinary or average" — equally unworthy? Are extreme honesty and extreme dishonesty equally immoral? Aren’t man of extreme virtue in a matter of extreme depravity equally evil?

If an uncompromising stand is smeared as "extremism", then that smear is directed at any devotion of values, any loyalty to principles, any profound conviction, any consistency, steadfastness, passion, or dedication to unbreached truth.

Soapie recently posted some excellent insights on ...

Soapie recently posted some excellent insights on the word extremist. He said the definition itself is neutral and only means something outside of the average. Re that man at his age he should be out fly-fishing in a trout stream somewhere in Colorado not shooting up a museum. I mean gosh I've been angry about things too (although not the same things as this man) but it usually just gives me diarrhea. I DO have a problem with the moral character of many of those on the Left though as I recently blogged about and it's not a conclusion I came to lightly but only after the evidence of many many years. Though I strongly disagree with Robert Bork over his views on free speech (he's pretty much come out for censorship in the culture wars) what the Left did to him and Clarence Thomas was downright ugly so I'm merely calling it as I see it.

I'm sorry but I do not have a blog or website. I voted for proposition 8 in California to protect the traditional definition of marriage. I pay far too much in taxes.

I never thought this country would consider someone like me to be a possible threat or an enemy of the state. ONLY because of my politics which are the same as about a few less that the amount of people that voted for Barack Obama and did so under the promise of "Hope and Change" and who were cheated.
